Voice AI is Quietly Becoming the Thing Holding Estate Agency Operations Together

Has anyone got World Cup fever yet? Or are you feeling pretty mute about it still?
(England supporters, forgive the image I've used but I also don't want to jinx anything in advance of tonight's match)
A strange start to summer in many ways and the World Cup kicking off is no different. It doesn't quite feel as exciting as a World Cup should (yet), or does it? Maybe the world's too noisy at the moment and too complicated for this tournament to have its usual pull…
I'm hearing similar things in my daily conversation with agencies too, there's a lot landing on them all at once and it's killing the mood a bit. The Renters' Rights Act came into force in May and the operational weight of it is still settling, leasehold reform is creating uncertainty in sales pipelines, costs are rising, economic confidence is fragile and teams are being asked to carry more with the same resource.
This feedback comes directly from agencies every single day and it's impacting organisations all the way through. Small examples I know but in the last two weeks I've had conversations with agents where a single employee is handling all the WhatsApp on their personal phone and an answering service is taking messages. You still can't tell whether these were valuation enquiries or a maintenance issues without someone listening back to the whole thing.
These operational sticking points make it really difficult to work your way through challenging times and over time, it's draining.
None of it is caused by bad management but the additional complexity in a day to day agency role is now pretty significant and while it might feel like your coping, there's probably a lot of gaps you can't really see.
I understand the instinct, this is a resilient industry and people are proud of how they manage, but in my experience, "we're managing" and "we're set up well" are two different things and in a market that's getting harder, that gap can catch you out.
The tools available to agencies right now are genuinely different to what they were even two years ago. AI has moved fast and some of it is really starting to prove its value, not as a novelty, not as a replacement for good people but as something that can hold an operation together when everyone's stretched.
The agencies that come through the next twelve months well aren't necessarily the ones who work hardest. They're the ones who take a proper look at how their operation actually runs, understand the real customer journeys in their business and make deliberate decisions about where technology, process and people could genuinely help.
The football will find its rhythm, it always does. I think something similar is happening with AI in the property industry, the early noise is settling and we're starting to genuinely see a difference. Worth taking seriously if you haven't already.
